Betting Guide: Stoke v West Ham

Last updated : 16 October 2009 By Dan Buxton
Stoke look for a first win in five league games when they entertain the Hammers at the Britannia Stadium. West Ham have a good recent record against Stoke but find themselves in the bottom 3 whilst the Potters look towards the top half of the table.

Stoke are clear favourites for the game with the bookmakers, a best priced 23/20 with William Hills whilst BlueSQ offer odds of 11/4 on an away win. If you think the game will end all square then a host of bookies, including Bet365, Ladbrokes, William Hill and BetFred will all give you odds of 23/10 on a draw.

The Potters try to keep things tight at home and grab a narrow victory . If you think the hosts will get a 1-0 win then Ladbrokes and StanJames offer 7/1 on that scoreline. Stoke may need a second goal if West Ham get their passing game right and its 8/1 with BetFred and SkyBet that the game ends 2-1 to Stoke. The Potters will be hoping to pile more misery on struggling West Ham and if you think the hosts could run away with the game then WilliamHill and BlueSQ will give you odds of 20/1 on 3-0 to Stoke.

Last season the Hammers won by one goal to nil and a repeat of that scoreline is available at 9's with BlueSQ. If you think the Potters will be defeated but are bound to score then the same company offer 12's that the game ends 2-1 to the Hammers. A goalless draw could well be on the way and VictorChandler offer 17/2 that the deadlock remains unbroken throughout. If however you think the contracting styles of these two sides could see a few goals then 2-2 may interest you, that result is available at 16's with BlueSQ and SportingBet.

The Potters have only conceded once in the first 45 minutes of all their Premier League games so far this season and so the deadlock may well not be broken until the second half. If you think that goal may arrive shortly after half time then PaddyPower offer 17/2 that the first strike comes between the 46th and 55th minute.
The first goal odds throw up some interesting odds. Stoke's top scorer Dave Kitson has netted the opener in three game salready this season and if you think he will make it four then back him at 13/2 with PaddyPower and SkyBet. Matthew Etherington joined from West Ham in January and PaddyPower offer odds of 18/1 on the winger opening the scoring. Abdoulaye Faye netted the opener in last seasons clash between these two sides at Upton Park and is 28/1 with StanJames and Ladbrokes to repeat that at the Britannia Stadium.

West Ham have relied heavily on Carlton Cole this season and he already has five goals. If you think he will score the first tomorrow then he is 7/1 with most bookmakers, including Ladbrokes, SkyBet and Corals. The only other player to have netted more than once this season is Junior Stanislas and he can be backed at 12's across the board to net first whilst Jack Collison is a danger at set pieces and is available at 20's with Coral, WilliamHill and Bet365.
