Betting Guide: Stoke v Liverpool

Last updated : 15 January 2010 By Dan Buxton

Stoke go into this league clash on the back of a change in fortunes as they look to make it a hat trick of victories. Liverpool are struggling, sitting a lowly eighth in the Premier League and in great danger of missing out on the prestigious Champions League.

The Potters are, as expectedly, majorly outsiders for the game and are available a massive 11/4 with PaddyPower and Victor Chandler. Liverpool can be backed at 5/4 with BlueSQ.The draw is 11/5 with Bet365 and Boylesport.

Stoke will be hoping to grab a big name scalp and 1-0 is available at 9's with SkyBet. The Potters biggest win this season was a 2-0 opening day win over Burnley, and SkyBet offer 22's that the Potters repeat that. The Potters have been conceding goals quite often lately so a clean sheet may not be coming and BlueSQ offer 9/1 on a 2-1 Stoke win.

Liverpool are not defending well and may have to concentrate on that defence and take their chances to snatch a 1-0 win. That scoreline is 13/2 with Coral and BlueSQ. As mentioned Liverpool's defence is leaky at best and not high on confidence so may decide to attack the Potters, hoping to be more clinical than the hosts, and Ladbrokes and SkyBet offer 9's on a 2-1 away win. The Potters looked dangerous in that last game and a high scoring draw may well be on the cards, 3-3 is a huge 100/1 with SportingBet.

City will be hoping that the positive performance against York and Fulham can be repeated and both Ricardo Fuller, 9's with Ladbrokes to open the scoring, and Matthew Etherington, 20's with Coral's to net first, will be hoping to carry on their goalscoring form. Tuncay may benefit from a back on form Fuller alongside him and is 9's with SkyBet to break the deadlock if he recovers from the hamstring injury that brought about his premature withdrawal last week.

Fernando Torres has been Liverpool's main goal threat but his, and talismanic midfielders Gerrard and Benayoun's absence means it will be an unfamiliar forward line for Liverpool and Dirk Kuyt is 7/1 with ExtraBet to open the scoring whilst David N'gog , who will most likely to leading the line, and is at 6's with SkyBet and BlueSQ to net first. Alberto Aquilani is still searching for his opening Reds goal and is 22/1 with BlueSQ.
