Betting Guide: Portsmouth v Stoke

Last updated : 26 October 2009 By Dan Buxton
City travel to Portsmouth unbeaten in five away games, whilst the hosts sit bottom of the league. This is the cup though and anything can happen, both sides will no doubt rest first teamers so its whoever's reserves are hungrier.

Pompey are favourites to win within 90 minutes, 7/5 with PaddyPower, whilst Stoke are 2/1 with WilliamHill and Bet365. The draw can be backed at 12/5 with SkyBet, Ladbrokes, Coral and WilliamHill.

Stoke won their last game in this cup 4-3 and Bet365 offer 175/1 on a repeat of that scoreline.Simonsen has looked in fine form against Chelsea and Tottenham recently so WilliamHill, Bet365 and BetFred's 12/1 on a 2-0 Stoke win could well be the bet to have.

Portsmouth have found scoring a lot easier in this competition than they have in the league and if you think they will carry that form then PaddyPower and Bet365 offer 28's on the game ending 3-2, with PaddyPower offering 80's on a 4-2 scoreline. The game could well be too close to be finished after 90 minutes and if you think it'll end all square then 1-1 can be backed at 6's with Boylesport and BlueSQ. Stoke's opening game in this competition was goalless after 90 minutes and Ladbrokes will give you odds of 9/1 on that outcome on Tuesday.

Both sides are going to want to sieze control early, as the host of reserve players on show look to make an impression and Bet365 offer 7/2 on the first strike arriving in the opening ten minutes.

Andy Griffin injury time strike won the game for Stoke in the last round and he is 50's with Boylesport and WilliamHIll to score the opening goal at his former club. Dave Kitson has netted the opening goal of the game three times this season and he is 7/1 with the same two bookmakers. Leon Cort is always dangerous from set pieces and with Lawrence a likely starter the 25/1 on the defender to open the scoring, available with Boylesport, William Hill and Coral, looks a good value bet.

Aruna Dindane was a Stoke target in the summer and looks dangerous, Coral give odds of 13/2 on him opening the scoring. Nadir Belhadj knows where the net is and is available at 25's with Boylesport and WilliamHIll to net first.
