Stoke Ramblers 5-1 Chester

Stoke Ramblers extended their unbeaten home record to five games, a run stretching back to October, and made it four home wins in a row, after defeating Chester at Halls Road Playing Fields.

Ramblers had another good turnout of twenty players and the Xi picked to start the game soon got stuck in a tough and competitive game that was played very fairly and with little, if any, arguing with the referee, as usual for Ramblers fixtures.

After an end to end start where both teams went close to opening the scoring, the Ramblers broke the deadlock when a ball forward by Simon Duckmanton was collected by Chris Cope. The winger took the ball in his stride, waited for the keeper to rush out before dinking the ball over the man with the gloves and into the back of the net.

The lead was doubled shortly after when Lee Jaquiss got in on the act, controlling a ball over the top by defender, and Ramblers Man of the Match, Craig Taylor before stroking the ball past the keeper and into the net.

Jaquiss has been in fine form for the Ramblers, and has now netted a dozen goals in his five appearances, his 11th and 12th strikes coming late in the first half as another Taylor ball over the defence was collected and put away by the hitman before he produced a great finish to seal his hat trick on half time.

The Ramblers started their substitutes shortly after half time and Chester battled well to try and force a way back into the game but the win was sealed with a brave header from close ranger by Nick Newman midway through the half, nodding in from a corner.

Chester pushed for a consolation and got the goal their efforts deserved in the last minute when a City player got in front of his man at a corner and nodded the ball across goal and inside the far post.
