5-a-side preview: v Port Vale DFC(7/9/11)

Last updated : 07 September 2011 By Dan Buxton

Hardly Athletic go into this weeks clash hoping to keep themselves top of the table as they face the side sitting just behind them in second position.

Hardly have improved every season in the league, having won more league games than in any of their previous seasons every time, and due to last weeks victory over City Veterans sit on top of the pile this term.

The sides have met four times before, with both sides winning twice. 12 months ago PVDFC won 8-6, in a game where Hardly fielded four players who only ever played that week for the side, before the usual suspects returned to win the return game 3-1 for Hardly. Athletic won the first fixture between the sides last season, 6-3, before Port Vale won the cup game between the sides 3-2. The sides were due to meet on the last day of last season but the venue had to cancel the game prior to kick off, the game going down as a 0-0 draw.

Dan Middleton makes his return after a long lay off with a knee injury whilst Chris Cope(toe) and James Robins(foot) miss out.
