Poll Result: Man of the Match v Sunderland

Last updated : 06 February 2010 By Dan Buxton

The game was hardly the most exciting you'll ever see, in fact it was right at the other end of the scale, but it did produce the closest finish to a poll yet as the top three were seperated by one vote.

Whelan, Huth, Sidibe, Tuncay and Higginbotham all picked up a few votes each but the top three were streets ahead and finished as follows:

3) Dean Whitehead - 18.8% - Midfielder had a busy game as he missed the Potters best chance in the opening five minutes, was involved in an ongoing spat with Lee Cattermole and made tackle after tackle in a game where he needed to be on form

1=) Ryan Shawcross - 20.3% - Centre back dominated the defence as he contained the dynamic duo of Jones and Bent, with great ease, and did his England hopes no harm at all

1=) Matthew Etherington - 20.3% - Winger was the only player, bar Fuller in the final ten minutes, on the pitch who looked likely to create anything. Defended well aswell but was hampered with the ball at his feet by the bobbly pitch.

Etherington extends his lead at the top of the table whilt Whitehead consolidates his place in the top 3 and Shawcross moves well inside the top 10 in the season standings
