Poll Result: Goal of the Season 2009/10

Last updated : 23 May 2010 By Dan Buxton

There were some fantastic goals scored by the Potters this season, and the poll produced a clear winner, but all but one of the thirteen strikes, picked out by yours truly, collected at least one vote. There were long distance strikes, first time shots, headers following good teamwork and delicate finishes that somebody or other rated as the best scored by a Potters player this season but the top 3 were as follows:

3) David Kitson v Manchester City(H) - 3.6% - Good build up play saw City moved the ball through the oppoition half before the ball fell to Kitson just inside the penalty area. The striker controlled the ball, faked one way to get himself half a yard of space, and as he turned he curled the ball across Given and inside the far post.

2) Glenn Whelan v Tottenham(A) - 12.7% - A great finish but an even more important goal as it gave Stoke only their second ever win away at Tottenham, and an eye catching win at that. In the 86th minute, and with the scores locked at 0-0 and the Potters having been on the backfoot throughout, the ball was played down the wing to Fuller. The Jamaican dribbled down the line, flicked the ball past the defender by the corner flag, forced his way past another before squaring to the incoming Whelan. The Irishman hit it first time up and over Gomes and watched as it dropped just under the bar, flying into the top corner of the net to send the Stoke fans wild.

1) Ricardo Fuller v West Ham(A) - 67.5% - An absolute sublime goal by the Jamaican. A long, high, very high, ball forward from Collins was instantly controlled by Fuller. He spun and faced the defender. With the ball looking like it was glued to his foot he drifted one way then the other, leaving a defender on his backside, and England defender Upson horribly out of the game, before cooly sending Green the wrong way as he clipped the ball high into the net.
