Official Match Preview: Stoke v Wolves

Last updated : 30 October 2009 By Dan Buxton
The Potters host Wolves this weekend in the closest thing to a local derby this season.

Mama Sidibe's comeback in midweek may thrust him into contention for a place on the bench whilst Tuncay and Diego Arismendi's performances will no doubt have pushed themselves closer to the first team. Robert Huth is still banned.

Stoke have a 100% record at home this season, barring games against the 'Big 2', and have already seen off Burnley, Sunderland and West Ham. Last weeks away win at Tottenham means the Potters are on a run on two consecutive league wins and a total of three league games unbeaten. Wolves are, as expected, struggling down in the bottom five but are the right side of the relegation zone and have picked up some valuable points already. Drew one all with Everton in their last away game and also at home to Aston Villa last weekend.

In the 69 matches between these sides that have seen Stoke at home, the Potters have won 33, the visitors 22 and 14 have been drawn. The opening day of the 2004/5 season was the last time the Potters won this fixture, since then losing 3-1 and drawing both 0-0 and 1-1. Overall Wolves have won 63 times to the Potters 46.

Chris Foy is taking charge of Saturdays game. He refereed Wolves in their opening day defeat to West Ham and also the Potters in their goalless draw away at Birmingham.

The Met Office report that there will be overcast conditions, with sunny spells, temperatures of 17 degrees celsius, very good visibility and a light 8mph breeze.

Ricardo Fuller is 30 on Saturday and will be hoping to open his league account with his cards.

Prediction: A scrappy, physical game goes the way of Stoke with Fuller and Tuncay netting the all important goals.
