Official Boothen Roar Match Preview: Stoke v Liverpool

Last updated : 12 November 2010 By Dan Buxton

The Potters host Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium after picking up a win in midweek, following four controversial defeats in a row.

Stoke sit 16th in the Premier League, after being 7th just a few weeks ago, and will be up to try and claw back some of the points robbed from them in recent weeks. The visitors are three points and seven places better off than the hosts but have an great recent record against Stoke, it is 26 years and 13 games since Stoke last beat The Reds, when they were still playing at the Victoria Ground.

Stoke have a decent home record this season and have already beaten Fulham, Shrewsbury, Aston Villa, Birmingham and Blackburn whilst only losing to Manchester United and Tottenham. Liverpool have only one league away win this season, also earning earning two draws from their six away days so far.

In the 59 matches between these sides at Stoke, the Potters have won 23, the visitors 14 and twenty two have been drawn. Last time the pair clashed at the Britannia Stadium the game ended 1-1 with Huth equalising in injury time for Stoke. Overall Liverpool have won 61 times to the Potters 26.

The referee is Mark Halsey. After missing last season due to being diagnosed with cancer the ref has returned in 2010/11 after beating the disease. This season he took charge of the Potters when they defeated Fulham 2-0 at home. He has refereed Liverpool once this season, the goalless draw away at Birmingham.

The Met Office report that there will be heavy rain, temperatures of 8 degrees celsius, moderate visibility and a light 8mph wind.

Prediction: Liverpool have picked up recently but if Stoke's forward players get going then they can cause anyone problems and I believe Stoke will sneak a 2-1 win, with Etherington causing Carragher all sorts of problems.
