Official Boothen Roar Match Preview: Arsenal v Stoke

Last updated : 22 February 2011 By Dan Buxton

The Potters travel to Arsenal hoping to make it six away wins this season.

Stoke sit 10th in the Premier League and will be up to try and get rid of any lingering relegation fears and hopefully push themselves closer to a European position. The hosts are eight places and twenty points ahead of the Potters.

Stoke have a good away record this season and have already beaten Newcastle, Cardiff, West Brom, Wolves and Blackburn on their travels. Arsenal have won nine home league games this season but have also lost three times, including to Newcastle and West Bromwich Albion.

In the 45 matches between these sides at Arsenal, the Potters have won just 5, the hosts 35 and five have been drawn. Last time the pair clashed at The Emirates the game ended in a 2-0 home win. Overall Arsenal have won 48 times to the Potters 22 victories.

The referee is Peter Walton. This season he took charge of the Potters as they won 2-0 away at Cardiff in the FA Cup, aswell as the 1-1 home draw with Manchester City and the 2-1 loss away at Bolton. He refereed Arsenal in their 3-0 away win at Birmingham. Last season he refereed the clash between these two clubs at the Britannia Stadium, where he sent off Ryan Shawcross for the tackle that saw Aaron Ramsey end up with a broken leg, where he later admitted he sent the defender off for the injury rather than the tackle.

The Met Office report that there will be clear skies, temperatures of a mildish 8 degrees celsius, good visibility and a 7mph wind, with gusts of 17mph.

Prediction: City catch Arsenal with eyes elsewhere as they look towards Sundays cup final and the upcoming Champions League tie with Barcelona and manage to sneak a well earned point thanks to a late equaliser from none other than Ryan Shawcross.
