Oppositions Season Review: Everton

Last updated : 27 May 2010 By Dan Buxton

So how has the season gone in your eyes? Was it better or worse than you expected last August?

Definitely worse! 8th was a decent finish given the start we had to the season and the ridiculous amount of injuries we suffered with but I, at least, expected us to finish in the European places again.

The worst thing was that, even in spite of our dreadful start, we threw away so many points towards the end of the season which killed off our European aspirations.

Who has been your best player over the season? Who has improved the most during 2009/10?

Best player was Leighton Baines. The full back had a great season that culminated in his, well deserved, England call up.

Most improved player would be Seamus Coleman. Had a difficult debut at Benfica but came on magnificently in the games he played for us and has just been a star performer for Blackpool during their promotion run-in.

What was the best moment of the season for your side?

Bilaletdinov's sublime goal against Portsmouth. The season had already fizzled out and the game looked to be going the same way until the Russian got the ball on the egde of the box and curled one of the sweetest goals you'll ever see with virtually the last kick of the season. Lifted the whole mood inside the ground to ensure a happy send off for the players!

What was the game of the season?
Tough call between beating Chelsea or Man United but the win over Man United just edges it. After going one-nil down there was a feeling of inevitibility about the reuslt but Bilyaletdinov's pile driver kicked off the comeback and to see Jack Rodwell sail through the United defence and sew up a 3-1 win at the end was magic!

If you were manager what would you be doing this summer?
Apart from taking a well earned break from football - World Cup included - I'd be looking to make sure we keep our squad together for the coming season and add a striker and a right winger - preferably Landon Donovan - before the big kick off in August.
Where do you see the club going from here?
If we do manage to keep the squad together and make a couple of quality additions over the summer then I see no reason when 2010/11 can't see us pushing for a top four finish and a cup win.
