A hard working midfielder with a deadly dead ball delivery and a creative streak.

A former England Under 21 international he had one season in the top flight with Sheffield United before they were relegated amidst the Carlos Tevez affair.

Brought by Stoke from Sheffield United for £2m on deadline day in September 2008 to add competition to the midfield, he has played most of his career on the left but can play the right wing or in the middle.

Started only one league game, away at Pompey, and therefore has never really been given the chance he craves but was heavily involved in pre-season for the 2010/11 campaign and came on as a sub in the opening two games of the season.

Although included in the 25 man squad for 2010/11 the deadline day signings of Eidur Gudjohnsen, Jermaine Pennant and Marc Wilson seemingly pushing him out of the matchday squad yet again and he never got a chance to prove himself in the league.

Signed a 12 month extension for 2011/12 and will be hoping to get more opportunities as the Potters add the Europa League to their calendar for this coming season.
