Versatile defender signed from Southampton for £1.5m in the summer.
Arrived with a solid reputation as a right back or centre back and was a regular at right back in the Middlesbrough side that won the Carling Cup and reached the final of the UEFA cup before a move to the Saints where he won player of the season during his one season stay.
Injured when signed, he then required a further operation after breaking down when nearing full fitness and that has been the story of his time with Stoke, which has seen loan moves to Walsall, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United.
Left out of the Potters 25 man squad for the 2009/10 season and will almost definately be left out again this campaign, meaning he is sure to leave Stoke on loan once more, before departing for good when his contract runs out in the summer, is he hasn't already left by then.
