Seasiders 2 Potters 2

In this game there were 3 players that we could say played well. Cutler, Clarke and Iwelumo. Without those 3 it could have been very bad for the potters as somehow Blackpool managed to get themselves in the game after Stoke found themselves 2-0 up!

Blackpool came back from a two-goal deficit to hold form side Stoke in a match full of incident. The sides were equal in a pacy first half with both sides squandering a number of chances.

Stoke made the better start with Brynjar Gunnarson almost netting in the first minute but the Seasiders goalkeeper James Pullen pulled off a superb save to deny him.

Blackpool's leading striker Brett Ormerod looked to have put the home side ahead after five minutes but his effort was ruled offside.

The visitors Sergei Shtanyuk then hit the side netting minutes before half time.

Stoke came charging out in the second half and dominated the proceedings until lanky striker Chris Iwelumo made the vital breakthrough.

The striker found himself on the end of a superb Jurgen Vanduerzen cross from the left side after 61 minutes and his header easily beat Pullen and the rest of the home defence.

Less than one minute later Stoke had won the ball from the restart and Iwelumo raced through the shell-shocked Tangerines defence to fire a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

Blackpool then staged a miraculous comeback with Ormerod the main creator. He raced through after 66 minutes on the end of a Paul Simpson through ball to find himself one-on-one with the Stoke keeper but his shot flew inches wide.

Ormerod then netted his 17th of the season in the 72nd minute amid a frantic goalmouth scramble. Stoke keeper Neil Cutler managed to save one shot but Ormerod was never going to miss the rebound.

Minutes later Ormerod found himself in his favour position and fired from the left to the bottom right past the outstretched arm of Cutler.

The home side could then have gone on to win the match with superb efforts from Ormerod and Simpson denied by an in-form Cutler.

Richard Wellens saw a spectacular shot looped over the defence hit the underside of the crossbar and bounce out in the final five minutes.

Blackpool manager Steve McMahon said that he was happy with the result but disappointed in his side's defence.

He said: "You've got to be happy with a point when you've gone 2-0 down in a game but it was so frantic at the end we could have won with four or five goals.

"I was disappointed with the defence but I suspect the same can be said of their manager.

"Brett Ormerod is everything a striker should be. He may miss two or three chances but he will keep on plugging and score the next two or three."

Stoke manager Gudjon Thordarson said: "At the start of the game I thought a point would be enough then as the match went on I thought we'd get all three.

"Our defence has been very solid all season but towards the end of the match we were hanging on."
