Thordur told Stoke City World: "I'm thrilled to be here and I'm thrilled to have the chance to come and play for a club like Stoke City.

"I know the club personally very well due to my family connections and through the other Icelandic players who have played for the club, so I knew everything I needed to know about the club.

"It's also a new challenge for me and one that I'm looking forward to."

He added: "When Stoke first connected me the first thing I did was to ring my Dad up and talk to him about the club.

"He thought this would be a good move for me and I think he knows that I can do well for this club.

"I've trained with the boys today for the first time and I hope I can make a good impression next week if I'm involved at Wigan."
