Spurs Waiting On Champions League Fate Before Launching Bid For Potters Stars

Tottenham Hotspur are waiting to see the outcome of their midweek Champions League tie before launching a double swoop for Potters stars Ryan Shawcross and Asmir Begovic.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has been keeping tabs on Shawcross, 22, for over 12 months and worked with Asmir Begovic, also 22, at his former club Portsmouth, with the keeper turning Redknapp down to join the Potters in January.

City captain Shawcross is the gem in the Potters side and City have already laughed away a £10m bid from Liverpool last summer, aswell as repeatedly told clubs they are wasting their time chasing the former England U21 international.

Although Begovic has failed to force his way into the Potters first team, bar a small run of games when Sorensen was injured at the end of last season, Bosnian Begovic is another who is held in high esteem by the City management, and manager Pulis has had to come out more than once to tell Chelsea and Manchester City not to bother as the youngster is not for sale, especially so soon after he signed for £3.25m in January of this year, with the champions having bids of £4m and £4.5m rejected already.

The word coming out of White Hart Lane though, and Spurs do have a habit of 'leaking' transfer news that may benefit the club, is that should Tottenham qualify for the Champions League group stage, and cash in on the riches on offer, then they will launch a £20m raid on the City pair, with £14m put aside for Shawcross and £6m there to prise away Begovic.
