Tottenham midfielder Wilson Palacios is set to sign for the Potters in a deal reported to be worth £10m.

The deal, which is certain to be concluded early next week, will see the Honduran international take the clubs record transfer tag from Potters number 9 Kenwyne Jones, who joined for £8m last summer and it would be the sixth season out of the last seven that Stoke have broken their transfer record following on from Sammy Bangoura(£800,000), Ryan Shawcross(£2m), Dave Kitson(£5.5m), Robert Huth(£6m) and Jones previously.

Palacios first came into English football with Wigan and some fantastic display earnt him a £14m move to Tottenham where he shone under Harry Redknapp before falling out of favour during the last campaign.

The deal was all set to be completed on Friday but the Potters management were unable to get back from their triumphant trip to Split before the FA offices closed for the weekend.
