Gifton turns claret

He says it's for his family and job security, which is fair enough, but Gifton has also doubled his basic salary by moving to Turf Moor.

Understandable, considering Stoke weren't even willing to offer him longer than a one year contract.

It's not too difficult to see why we've watched players leave this season, it possibly has something to do with us not showing any willingness to keep them! Big mistakes have been made but we can only hope that Tony Pulis can build a squad fit enough for this division after he returns from his family holiday.

There's 1 and a half months until the first pre-season friendly and Tony Pulis with the help of John Rudge need to act quickly to bring in quality. Has Steve Cotterill done the right thing by choosing to build his team early and catching all the good quality free transfers? The early bird catches the worm after all.

But sadly I think that it wouldn't have made a difference if we'd have tried to sign players early unless Stoke as a club can show the willingness to pay some money out. We're amongst the lowest 4 or 5 clubs for wages and this will reflect in the standard of players that can be attracted.

One has to wonder when the next bus to Burnley arrives..
