Huth told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's something that I would like to do but I know it's going to be difficult.

"I have to see in the future how I perform for Stoke and hopefully I can get back into the squad."

Germany reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in South Africa, scoring four goals in each of their victories over England and Argentina, before losing 1-0 to Spain in the last four.

"It doesn't seem that bad when you lose to the eventual winners," said Huth. "The best team won the tournament in the end, but it was a good run for Germany."

Huth's last two appearances for Germany came during their tour of Asia last summer - three years after his previous cap.

The former Middlesbrough defender is currently taking part in his first pre-season at Stoke, having made the move to the Britannia Stadium late in the summer transfer window in August 2009.

"It's gone really smoothly," added Huth. "We've been away for a week or so [in Austria] and it's nice to get the games going."

Stoke begin their third season in the Premier League with an away game at Wolves on 14 August.
